Mouse feels weird in Win 7 compared to XP

Thread Starter
I've been on XP since...forever. I tried 7 a while back and decided to stay with XP. I finally made the switch and now my mouse feels terribly odd. It feels like it's sort of "lagging" in CS 1.6. That's the only shooter I play but I assume it's like that in every game. I turned Mouse Acceleration off, forced it off with a registry fix, but it still feels odd.

Anyone experience the same thing?

Might be the polling rate. What mouse do you have? If it's a logitech you can set the polling rate to 1000hz without needing to hack up drivers and such.

Are you using the device's own drivers or just the generic windows drivers? Which did you use on XP? If you used to use generic and now use proprietary drivers, you may have a few differences. Same goes the other way around (Ie: you had proprietary drivers before and now use generic). I've also heard that mouse acceleration can never be fully disabled, only lowered.

Just some ideas; I've never heard of this before

It's an MX518. I tried changing the polling rate using the thread and utilities on the forum here and whenever I switched and signed the driver, that USB slot would stop working all together. Is there another way? Otherwise I'm stock at 125.

Use the logitech setpoint software. link

I second ramping up your mouse's polling rate if it supports it, not all do but it makes your mouse CRAZY responsive.

I had the same problem. Do you play in windowed mode?

If so disable aero by following the instructions in scy1192's post http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1408123

Fixed it for me. Playing in window causes your GPU to work even more since its trying to render CS and the windows 7 aero theme at the same time so just disabling aero should fix it.

I do not see a way to change the polling rate inside SetPoint, only DPI.

I used generic windows drivers in XP and I have tried both using and not using SetPoint in 7...problem persisted.

I really think it's the mouse acceleration. Why does that even exist? Why would I want my mouse to start out moving slow and then have the speed increase? It causes me to jerk my gun in a game to get it moving to speed, then by the time it's "accelerated" it goes across the screen.
