First time build, input appreciated

Hey guys, so I've decided to go and build my own desktop. After using laptop as if it were a desktop for about 3-4 years I figured why not. My Gateway FX is starting to get old on me so I think it's time for an upgrade.

Heres what I was thinking:

Motherboard - Gigabyte Intel P55
CPU - Intel Core i5-760
RAM - G.SKill Ripjaws 4gb
HDD - Seagate 7200rpm 1.5tb
Case - Raidmax Quantum Mid tower
PSU - Antec Truepower 650w
Vcard - PowerColor 1gb Radeon 6850
Fan - Cooler Master 120mm

That's what I got so far. I know I'm still missing some things like sound card and what not, so I'm more than open to suggestions. Also, excuse me if this is a terrible setup, I havent really been keeping up to date with what hardware is good and whats not, so I'm just going by specs hah.

Also, as for what I'd be using it for, I'd say gaming in general, though Im not out to run Crysis 2 at max or anything crazy like that. But who knows what I'll be into down the road

Hmm I see, what makes you suggest those parts? Better performance? Cheaper? Both?

Also, what do you mean by "unlocked" when it comes to the graphics card?

This seems like a top-of-the-line suggestion.
These parts are better performing, but they are definitely more expensive than what you had in mind.
What is your budget?

If you're not an avid gamer or a 3D designer, theres not much reason to go into the new P67 socket. But anyway the 1156 platforms are still fantastic machines!
Are you going for a mid-range computer?

If so, this would be a great setup.

Far better. Right now, look no further than a 2500k/2600k and any P67 motherboard you want.

It can be dirt cheap if you like and still the best.

Don't even think about AMD.

Eh... P67 Isn't for everyone.
It doesnt take 5Ghz on air to type up word documents and browse the internet.

Since this new platform just came out, unfortunately you will NOT be able to put together a set of 1155 parts and call them "dirt cheap".

Also theres absolutely nothing wrong with AMD!

My friend got an AMD Phenom II x6 1090T, the i5 2500k costs less and is better.

Type up word documents?!
This is OCN, not a senior-citizen-center!

Dirt cheap:
CPU - 200$
MOBO - 100$
RAM - 50$

AMD = 2x Sandy Bridge. 'Nuff said.

I know, but not everyone on OCN is a hardcore Crysis fanatic..
look OP is upgrading from a Gateway FX
any upgrade from that would be fantastic.

idk bout motherboards. I have yet to see anything under 150.
and a 2nd gen cpu under 200? maybe only an i5?

Still isnt as cheap as 1156 ;]

Hey Track how is your 2600k? I've got all my parts and I'm going to build on the weekend. Are you happy with the performance?
