Bah sometimes I dont even know what I consider myself haha. I suppose I'm an avid gamer. So yes it'd be nice to run the games I play at max settings. Budget wise I'm looking around 800-1000.

Hmm I see, I think I'll stick with the 6950. That way I can unlock it and change the BIOS

look OP is upgrading from a Gateway FX
any upgrade from that would be fantastic.

idk bout motherboards. I have yet to see anything under 150.
and a 2nd gen cpu under 200? maybe only an i5?

Still isnt as cheap as 1156 ;]
Do you know what you're talking about?

Core i5-2500k, $179.99 at Microcenter. Will decimate almost all 1156 socket CPU in games, on par with a 980x.

P67A-UD3, $134.99 on Newegg.

Btw, the only difference between the SB i5 and i7 is HT. And this guy claims he's an avid gamer, why are you saying he's going to be typing word documents? Get a clue. Nothing beats SB at this point in time for the price/performance ratio, don't suggest a dead socket to him.

Anyway, get the i5-2500k, a p67 mobo of your liking, an hd 6950, and a pair of Samsung Spinpoint F3's. Don't get WD blue, the Spinpoints are much faster.

Edit: I just realized you're picking up a 1055t, if you live near a Microcenter don't. Even if you don't I would still recommend spending the extra $40 and getting an i5-2500k. It will completely shut down the 1055t's performance in games and probably anything else you can throw at it. You will spend a little more on a motherboard but it's completely worth it. Look at some benchmarks.

My recommendations. You can also add in a second Samsung Spinpoint F3 for Raid 0 and still be under your $1,000 budget. You will be much happier with this build IMO. If you don't like the P8P67 my next recommendation would be the Gigbayte P67A-UD3P
