Ok so trying to do a fresh install on a computer my friend just built and I am running into some issues..

The drive that it came with (500GB blue) is brand new but is giving SMART failure.

Regardless, I got through the formatting and installing of windows, but it would not find any updates for vista despite being connected to the internet (was this because I hadnt put in the cdkey yet?) Upon rebooting it gave me an error saying a registry file was corrupted and to repair the install.

When trying to repair the install, windows has acts like it is a fresh install but the previous username is still taken.

Anyway, does this look like a faulty hard drive? Ideas?
