Eyefinity help please!

Thread Starter
i bought 2 monitors today to play games in eyefinity , i connect all the monitors up and only 2 of them get signal .. it wont expand to all 3 monitors it always leaves 1 of them disabled .

I have it setup like so on the back of my 6950 : 2 monitors connected via DVI and 1 monitor connected by a passive dvi>mini dp adaptor .

I heard ill need an active adaptor to run eyefinity , in the package of the 6950 came a DP>mini DP adaptor .. I think the pc store dude is ordering in a cable that goes from dvi > DP so i can then use the adaptor that came with my 6950 to connect it to mini dp ? is this right ? im so frustrated i cant get the 3rd monitor to work =(

+ rep for answers , thanks .

First go into CCC then go to Desktop Management.
From there go to "Creating and Arranging Desktops.
Click the drop down arrow on the corner of the screen (The triangle)
Click Display group>Arrange (Or create group)
See if 1x3 and 3x1 options are available.

If they are, select that and it should activate your third monitor.
If they are not there, you will need to do one of the following options.

1)Go buy an active Mini Display port to DVI adapter Any of these will work
2)Go buy any Mini Display port to VGA adapter (If your monitor has VGA input)

Apparently , though some active ones iv seen arent powered by anything like the sapphire one i linked from newegg is active but doesnt get power from anywhere .. which is the one i am waiting for arrival at the pc shop ..hopefully it works !!

eyefinity is so confusing hurts when i turn my head to the left and i see my 3rd monitor is off .. i was so eager to play some games in eyefinity tonight..

i got screwed with a passive adaptor , the pc guru at the store didnt seem to know much about how to setup eyefinity he was relying on google pretty much .. I took the risk and asked him atleast 5x if this adaptor will work and he said yes but it didnt .. so i rang him up and explained my situation and he said hes ordering in the active sapphire dp>mini dp dongle ..

any eyefinity expert care to shed some light on my situation and what i should do please ? i feel as though i wasted $360 on 2 monitors i cant even use in eyefinity without an adaptor .

If your monitor has VGA you can get a mini display to VGA and be up and running tonight. Otherwise you will have to order an active one.

What most people don't understand is how Eyefinity works. As in your case, you didn't know how the adapters worked and assumed it's just plug 'n play. With nVidia, it is, but their drawback is that you need two cards for surround vision.

With AMD, you either need "one" DP/mini-DP, or an "active" adapter as your main connection. The sapphire one you linked looks like it should work. Their company has been pretty great about putting out adapters that work with Eyefinity.

Once you hook up the monitors and make sure everything is working, if your system still can't find all of them, make sure you update your windows, which usually finds the drivers for the monitors.

Other than that, in your CCC panel it's easy to setup, once they are all setup and working . Gluck with everything.

edit: Btw, the older more expensive adapters used an extra USB connector to "power" the active adapter, which the newer ones do not. I know that was questioned above.
