Phenom II X2 555 BE unlocking problem ! - Page 2

Yea...no one can guarantee a chip will unlock...even chips that unlock are known to have issues later on...it's never 100% all it is, is chance, if you wanted a quad core, don't gamble, get a quad core.

I hope you are able to return it but...

These sellers can always claim that the chip unlocked on their test setup and can not guaranty that they will on any other setup.

Get a quad if that is what you need.

best of luck!

Most games only use 2 cores, there are only a few games (don't ask me wich) that do benefit from 3 or even 4 cores.

Yes it is an excellent chip for gaming as well...there is nothing wrong with the chip for gaming...just get a good cpu cooler i.e. the hyper 212+ and more than likely the chip will reach 4ghz, there isn't really anything that would choke that chip even at stock speeds. for gaming most of the load is on the graphics card.

Honestly i don't see any difference when i game with the chip as a dual core and when it is unlocked as a quad core...few games take advantage of 2 or more cores eg when i run crysis only 1core is at full load..the other is there just waiting for something to do.

armin-

Did you try locking the 4th core in bios to see if the 3rd works? OR locking the 3rd. Most bios will let you lock and unlock specific cores. You might have a problem with only one of your two extra cores.

I have a b45 where the 3rd was unstable. Running as a tri-core 1,2 and 4 was stable.

If you do end up with just two, you should still be able to overclock it quite a bit.

Cheers!

Use VRM/MOSFET cooling before unlocking. Be sure.
Also unlocking is a bonus, don't expect it to unlock & work.
