All this.

Cheap SB X-Fi 5.1 is plenty good 'nuff... barring that onboard works as well.

Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread, I'm just curious.
They don't all use the x-fi chip. Only some creative and Auzentech sound cards do.

^this

it usually has "x-fi" in the name if it uses the creative chip

Thread Starter
to be honest wit the 2.1 im using i dont think it would matter if i got the most powerful card on the market its not ganna make any difference to the quality!

as for taxing the processor i didnt think it was ganna make much difference with my beastey 2500k! but you never know its always worth finding out what people have to say on the matter!

i think ill wait untill i get a new set of speakers befor i bother to get a sound card then!
Cheers!

The whole Vista driver compatibility nightmare was a problem with Vista. Nvidia, ATI, Realtek, everyone had them, the problems don't apply now unless you're using a discontinued sound card and this goes for any manufacturer, Asus, Creative or others. Asus only recently joined the sound card market, you can't say it is better than Creative when they barely started releasing products a few years ago, but when one of them becomes discontinued, I guarantee you they'll do the same thing Creative did and not bother supporting it.
