WD Caviar Blue vs Green for normal PC use

Thread Starter
Hey,a while I asked about the Caviar Blue but now I ask you about the Caviar Green.
Will the Caviar Green do a good job for normal pc use? or I should just get the caviar Blue?.
Caviar green is much cheaper I can get a Caviar Green 1TB for the same price of a Caviar Blue 500GB.

Thanks in advance.

Green would be good for a backup drive but I would get the blue for normal use.

Green for everyday comp use. But blue is for like store cameras and stuff like that. the speed between those two drives are minimal, between the two. If you need speed go Black for $60 for 500gig. But for everyday use, Id go green

What? Blue is for storing cameras?

Do not use a Green drive as a primary. Will it work? -of course. Is it ideal? -NO.

Green drives power down to a low state that consumes less power, this is great for a secondary drive (if you want to save power) but not something you want to use as a primary.

Personally, I don't even touch the Green drives.

I have Caviar Black in my PC,and yeah it's very fast.

But I need a HDD for my sister's PC,so a Caviar Black would be a waste of money she just surfs on the internet, read mail and that kinda stuff.

Caviar Greens are fine for normal PC use. My parents' HTPC have a sole Caviar Green 1TB (WD10EADS) for both OS and data (basically recordings). No noticeable lag or anything. Most laptops have 5400RPM drives. It's only recently that 2.5" 7200RPM HDD's and SSD's became more commonplace. These new, high capacity, advanced format green drives are even faster than older 7200RPM drives due to their greater areal density.

Might be a good idea to create a separate partition to house OS, programs and pagefile (80~160GB is probably plenty), though, so those are always on the faster part of the drive.
