GTX 470 running hot? - Page 3

If you are running more than one monitor the card to which the monitors are plugged will NOT downclock to 2D mode, it will downclock only if the monitors are turned OFF. So if you have multiple monitors, either raise the fan speed or learn to deal with a hot card. (My top GTX480 is at 58 while my bottom one is at 42 right now but under load the are within 2-5 degrees of each other).

Here is the latest. My buddy has a GTX 470, so I took my 2 out of my computer, and then put his in my case. His card ran about the same temp, mid 70's on 99% load, and then the game crashed just like it did with my 2 cards. His card runs with no problems on his machine. I believe I have isolated the problem to be one of the following:

CPU
Motherboard
Memory
PowerSupply

and ideas on how to narrow it down even further?

I'm running Prime95, no errors yet, and also will run memtest after this is done. other than that....not sure how to isolate the issue. Thanks again for the help!

Edit: I this point I wish I had a blue screen error to go off of. Right now it is just a freaking guessing game...so frustrating

Maybe you could look into disabling all your sound devices as well. It could be a driver problem. I would disable all the sound drivers for your Nvidia hdmi and also your onboard audio and just run your sound card.

thx for the recommendation, I disabled the onboard audio in the BIOS and disabled the Nvidia HDMI in the device manager. Still having the problem, like I said before, it is weird that it all the sudden started happening when I made no driver changes, hardware changes, or anything like that.

I thought maybe I was having power draw problems. I checked my system by going here: http://educations.newegg.com/tool/psucalc/index.html
and this says that I should have 978W, I currently have a 750W PS, am I really that far under? Would this be causing my problem? I'm going to try and pull some RAM sticks, and One of my velociraptor(10K) drives to see if the power load goes down. Could this be it?

No way, 750w is definitely enough for your current setup. Newegg's calculator recommends 474 watts for my setup, and yet I've only gotten power draw over 300 watts once; the most I've seen it at other than stress-testing is 250 watts.

Well, I ran Prime95 w/ no errors, I also ran Memtest 86+ w/ no errors. Since I have 3 sticks of RAm, what I did was, I took out all of them, and put them in by themself and tried to run the game, it crashed all 3 times so I believe I have cleared the memory and the CPU. So I'm down to a faulty power supply, or my motherboard...I checked capacitors and visually inspected the motherboard and couldn't find anything wrong. Should I just RMA the motherboard and hope that it is the problem? The only problem is they won't do cross shipping and so I will be out a computer for a while......something tells me that it should be the video card....but don't you agree my test proved that it isn't?
