temp question: b55

Thread Starter
I have my 555 unlocked and running very stable at 3.7ghz (prime95 hour+) but I would like to really test out how high the chip will clock.

Like all unlocked Phenoms, the core temps do not show up in HWMonitor after unlocking so I monitored the temps prior to unlocking and compared TMPIN1 to the core temps while running prime95 to gauge the offset. On my board, TMPIN1 reads 8-10C above what the cores read at.

AMD states 60C-62C is maximum safe temp and you guys recommend not going over 55C for 24/7. If this is correct then I should be okay running TPMIN1 all the way up to ~68C to bench? I would not go higher than 63C (55C+8C) for 24/7.

Is my thinking flawed or did I figure this out right?

Right now @3.7ghz: TMPIN1 =30C/51c. And yes, ambient is a bit lower than 22C.

BTW- this is on sig rig (TDP 140w/8+2 phase) and I do have an enotech on the mosfets.

Thanks guys!

Those are really good temps for the cooling you have. AMD is both right and wrong about 'safe' limits though. The chip will take up to 70c before auto-shutdown, and a 24/7 load of 55c is okay. On my push/pull wc I get 50c load under intel burn test.

For benchmarking, go as high as you want until it starts auto shutting off. Btw what voltage are you using on it?

railfan-

I am at stock voltage right still. CPU-Z shows it as 1.392v.

Did you compare the core temps to TMPIN temps before you unlocked your 560? What temps are use going by while unlocked?

thanks for replying!

Just to follow up

3.8ghz took a 50mV bump (1.45V) to achieve prime95 stable. TMPIN1 32C/55C
3.9ghz took another 50mV bump (1.50V) prime95 stable. TMPIN1 32C/57C

I was not able to get prime95 stable at 1.55V! No 4ghz on this chip as a quad for me.

Now to oc the nb.

cheers

Try taking the cpu-nb to 2600 or even 2800 like i did u get a nice performance boost from it...also u can check out my guide in my sig, along with advice i also put some of my personal overclock settings to my 555

amd-dude

I did read your nice write up. I have been using this rig for 4 months at 3.6ghz but just got the bug to take it up a notch. I was really hoping for 4ghz but I am happy with 3.9ghz.

I just upped my cpu-nb to 1.3V and raised the nb to 2.4ghz. It did just fine in super pi 32m. I will up it to 2.6 then try out 2.8. My ram score in wei went from 7.4 to 7.7!

What temp for your cpu do you go by after you unlock core? (question from my first post)

cheers

I think it goes to about 48c in a 17c room that's with 4.2ghz, 2600mhz nb...yes the ram score will go up because the cpu-nb sits between the ram and cpu...so that is making data flow more quickly...try for 2600 or 2800 u will not be disappointed

2.4ghz at NB=1.32V is all I can get out of this chip. I tried 2.6ghz all the way up to 1.44V in 40mV increments. Prime95 kicked out errors within the first minute.

HT?

cheers!

Up your NB voltage. Not CPU-NB but "regular" NB. I think it comes at 1.1 or 1.2v stock, depending on your board. Up to 1.3 is fine. You'll hit 2600 CPU NB with that.

Leave the HT-Link speed stock at 2000mhz increasing that just adds to instability...if you did increase it, that maybe your problem.

EDIT: your cpu-nb is good for up to 1.5v so you still have some room to try a higher voltage.
