Help with 965 OC

Thread Starter
I am having a little problem. So i have an Amd 965 be 3.4 ghz. I decided to try to OC it one day with AMD Overdrive (like an idiot) and things have all gone wrong since. It did the job but the processor got hot so i decided to undo the settings. Well now Overdrive no longer wanted to boot, so i cleared my cmos. Since doing that Overdrive still wont boot (even after reformatting for some reason) and my processor says its at 3411.24 mhz. Core temp says the frequency is 200.66 x 17 if that means anything. I'm new at this and I now know that you are never supposed to let a program OC for you. But i need help getting it back to normal. If it matters my mobo is an Asus M4A89TD Pro/Usb3. Thanks

Hey, you need help overclocking or getting your pc to normal?

I use cpu-z and HWmonitor to check my overclock and temps. Try those and see if your still getting that odd number.

200.66 x 17 is close enough to stock for the 965

before you overclock again, do you have a better cooler on the cpu?

You could just reset bios too, i think it's the F2 key while entering bios, or just manually enter all values.

Read this thread http://www.overclock.net/amd-general/525113-phenom-ii-overclocking-guide.html if you need some real good "How to overclock" info, plus it'll give you a good path (order of how to OC) to follow!

Never use a utility like overdrive to OC, results are rarely stable as you found out. Always best to learn how to do it in the bios. Take some time and study the link above, you'll be glad you did in the long run and might prevent doing damage. OC'ing takes time and shouldn't be rushed.

OC one area at a time, then add the pieces (separate areas) together for a full system OC. Without any knowledge of how and what order to do it in is when people end up doing damage or just get frustrated from not being able to stabilize their system. By going about this way you'll learn your chips needs and demands and spend a lot less time chasing your tail.
