Which SSD to get?

Thread Starter
Hey guys I was planning to upgrade into ssds, Will probably raid them and prefer at least 120gb after the raid - well minus the takoffs so 100ish +. Should I raid or just get a 128gb? Would that be just as good? Does sata 3 really make a difference with ssds? Total nub with ssds so haha thats why im posting this up.

Prices dont bother me too much, I can get around it if it seems not too heavy on the wallet.

Post which sdds are the good ones and the link if you can. My uncle bought a kingston and its sucking @#! on him. Not sure if its dead and he prob should just rma it but not my problem there.

If you're running a single video card (Looking at your sig rig, you are) I'd suggest a RevoDrive. They're pretty quick and you've got a supported mother board (See: Here). I've gotten one of each (Both the first version, and the x2) and both have been great. The only problem I had was having to reformat when I changed motherboard, and some bottlenecking ATM with it- 212 MB/s transfer according to HDTune, still pretty good-- Out of the 690 MB/s promised (see: Here for HDTune picture with max speed). I got in contact with the OCZ support, and am going to try switching the PCI-E slot it's in, and see if that fixes the bottleneck.

However, the quickest SSD's I've seen, transfer rate wise, is always a pair of SSD's, they also provide a much more... Versatile base for being able to choose new motherboards, as Revodrives aren't supported by every motherboard.

Or, just wait for the new Sandforce version to hit soon. (Clicky)

I am running an OCZ Vertex 2, and I love it. They just came out with a vertex 3 I beleive, that uses SATA 6Gbps, supposedly does like 550MB/S read and write... I think mine is somewhere around the 250 mark... whatever it is, it was one of the best upgrades I have ever made... Everything loads so f-in fast... Actually sucks playing online games because I have to wait up to 30seconds longer just for everyone else to load the damn map up!

That waiting you do Is the reason I havent gotten one yet. I am always the first one in without a ssd with one I know its going be even more of a wait. Once the sata 3 drives are out and priced fine I will get that.

@op: get a vertex 3 with the newest sandforce when it comes out (soon) or get one of the many people like: crucial c300, vertex 2, microcenter SF version, etc

The Crucial SSD SATA 3 is really fast at read but the write is still slow.
