SSD or another HD?

Thread Starter
I'm in the market for another HD, seeing as my Caviar Black 1TB is pretty much full. But, I can't decide between picking up a Caviar Green for the extra storage or buying an SSD and just make space on the Black. Would an SSD make that much of a difference? Or should I not spoil myself and stick to a cheaper and slower HD? Thanks for any help.

A proper SSD as your OS drive does spoil you but its plain awesome how responsive the machine gets.
At work visual studio 2010 loads up in like 50 seconds on a 7200rpm notebook drive. On my home rig in 3 seconds flat on a c300.

I had the same questions as you back then when I had the option to get a SSD, get one, it'll be a very good investment. It wont make any noticeable performance increase on games whatsoever **Somebody please correct me if im wrong**, but you're general windows experience will be faster than using a HDD. Programs stored ont he SSD opens faster, actual windows feels snappier. *from my experience that is*

you can just pop your OS and the programs you always use on the SSD and the programs you generally use on the HDD.

Ok, so I think I might pick up an SSD then. What about the price? At most places here in Canada, they run for about $2/GB. Is there any sign of these prices coming down relatively soon, or are there any new SSDs coming out in the near future?

As above..SSD will change your computing experience dramatically.
I'm the type to buy a newer technology as soon as I am able (being a single dad, sometimes I have to wait) but SSD was one I was on from the beginning. My first SSD didn't have trim or anything so I had 2 in raid. I'm now using a G4 Kingston SSD, not the fastest but up there.
Anyway...After building and rebuilding computers for more then a decade, I can honestly say an SSD was the most noticeable single component upgrade I have ever made.
Sure a video card may have made a bigger difference in games then my SSD did, but the SSD makes the difference in overall computer usage, not just games and its immediately noticeable upon first boot with it, or even windows installation which takes maybe 15 min now as apposed to 30+ min.

Its seriously a nobrainer...SSD FTW

Update: you added more questions so responding to the latest post:
The prices are now dropping on a pretty consistent basis..its only going to keep dropping.
If your not in a rush for it, watch the sites for someone having a wicked sale on one you like.
I'm also in Canada and I know Canada Computers is constantly having them marked down and on sale.

I'll wait a little bit longer, while keeping an eye out for a deal on a SSD.

Thanks for the input/help. Really appreciate it!
