Anyone Painted a G500???

I'm just curious. I got one used for $30 and I think the finish is atrocious. So, has anyone here painted one?

Is there any way to make the finish more consistent? It looks like a sweaty trucker used the mouse for 6 months, even though the mouse is basically brand new.

I have seen a guy who got 3M carbon fiber sheets of some kind and cut them out for his mouse and keyboard. It looked pretty slick! I probably wouldn't paint it because I would be afraid of the paint wearing off easily. Krylon Fusion is the best paint for plastic that I know if though.

The mouse has too many curves for carbon fiber I think. I can't see any logical way to take this thing apart either.

The mouse seems great and all, but I think I may end up trading it if I can't make it look better. I'm normally not that concerned with aesthetics, but this thing fell out of the ugly tree and got nailed with a fugly RPG on the way down. It makes me sick to my stomach. lol.

All the screws should be on the bottom of the mouse. Under the feet as well.
When all the screws are removed, hold onto the mouse shell and the point where the cord exits the mouse and lift carefully. Should be able to remove the casing and reveal the insides.
Hopefully this works cause it seems similar to my old G5 and both the G5 and MX518 were built similarly. If it is the same, there should be a ribbon connecting the upper shell to the main part of the mouse. The upper shell is held together by screws. Might take a bit of time. I painted my brother's MX518 for funsies. But I know they aren't the same.

I have a few sheels that fit this mouse. They haven't changed it in awhile.

The G7 Came in a fiber model, I put that on my last G5 because it was originally blue leopard.

Of course, if you switch the shell, I recommended replacing the PTFE feet. Also, If you paint it, I recommend removing the shell.

For paint, make sure you do a nice couple coats, and a nice clearcoat. Just like a car, you don't want to rub the paint off every time you dust it off.

It's not real carbon fiber it is a imitation wrap. It is very flexible and is made to hug complex curves.

I agree that painting might not work too well. I imagine it will rub off over time. I would paint a few layers of clear coat over the paint to help keep the paint from rubbing off if you are going to paint it.

Yeah, I know it's a vinyl wrap. It still isn't easy to work with on tight curves, though. It bunches up. thumb.gif

Talking about the browning of the surface? I was seriously turned off when my first used one came in. It had a broken middle mouse button though so I figured "perfect, I can RMA it and get one that's less worn." Well turns out the second one nearly brand new is also browned. I think it may come like that from the factory. Not sure why though.

After a thorough cleaning, it doesn't bother me really anymore. I do cut vinyl as a hobby though, so I can probably play around with patterns and heat to get one that fits perfectly. I'll let you know if I start to head down that road.

Wouldn't the vinyl be too thick? I really want to do this but the space between the side and top piece is VERY slim.
