Okay looks like im going for the gtx 295 and in total it's gonna cost me a total of 185+tax for the psu is there anything that can run on the 400 that is better than the 295(don't care for dx11 as it's still a gimmick IMO) for around that price range +/- 50-75 I want the best ban for my buck lol

Btw thanks for the help everyone if I get onto a pc anytime soon I'll be sure to give u guys reps

Well, I'd say a Radeon HD6870 - by the way, I just edited my previous post, where I mentioned an HD5850, I now mention the HD6870; it had the same 151w TDP, is newer and faster than the HD5850.

The HD6870 is not exactly better than the GTX295; if you are talking about games that take advantage of SLI, that is.

However it will consume far less power, has DX11 support (and the horsepower to run it), and will probably deliver better minimum framerates than the GTX295. Overall the HD6870 is better.

If you already had the GTX295 I'd say keep it; but since you are still deciding, the HD6870 no doubt is the better choice.

And it costs what you set yourself for the GTX295+PSU. See here

It should perform just fine, just don't overclock it with the CX400.

Oh, just a little detail, adding to the previous post: the CX400w has a 360w rating on the 12v rail, so it most probably wouldn't run the HD4870x2 at full load in the long run (I once read a review that said this PSU was underrated and could actually be callled a 450w PSU, but still, the 12v Rail would always be lower, and you would always be stressing it anyway).

Anyway, if you are willing to spend 185+tax + up to $50/75, why not just buy a new PSU with those $50/75 ?

That 185 includes a psu lol, I'm selling my 4850 512mb for 55 and putting the 400w In my clients build for 20-30. The 295 is 150 and I'm basically paying 95 for it, the psu is a 600w for 50 so it's only costing me 20-30 which brings the new grand total to 115-125 also the reason I put 185 is I might not sell the 4850 but it all depends

Trying to decide if I should go for overkill on the psu or not? Right now it's a 600w but I was thinking I should get a 750 or 850 so im good if i upgrade to a 6990 or something in a couple of years

Some of the power draw figures on that chart are wrong. There's no way a 4870X2 consumes close to what a 6990 does.

500w should be able to easily handle a GTX 260, your PSU was either faulty or it sucked.

The Rosewill Green 630 or 700 would fit into your budget.
