EDIT: I've reapplied the thermal paste so I don't think that's the problem.

You need to put just a small dab in the center of the cpu, about the size of a grain of rice. Then attach the H50 block.

IMPORTANT - Then be sure to turn your pc off at random times over the next 2 weeks to allow it to reach ambient temps, overnight or when you are at school/work.

AS-5 takes 200 hours to cure, and needs to be brought down to roo temp randomly during that period...
I recommend a good tube of MX-2 MX-4 or OCZ Freeze, they have no cure time..

I run a 950 @ 4.24, and it idles at 36 - 40 with or without HT, if I downclock to 3.8 it still idles at that temp..

The only temps that matter are load. If you are seeing 73c at stock something is wrong... Reseating and applying the small ammount of TIM may help..

Lap your H50.

Lap? I'm using a push/pull setup at the moment. The Outter fan blow air in the radiator and the other one blow out in the case.

Maybe there's a problem with my fans? Not enough power or just installed wrong, or would I get much higher temps if this was the case?

From the moment I checked the base with a metal ruler and began lapping, it was pretty obvious the base was pretty concave. If I would stick the CPU to the base manually, the suction was pretty good. However once mounted on the mobo, it's like they barely stuck to each other at all.

This is after a few rotations at 800 grit. The X hasn't faded at all in the center.

After 800 grit

After 1200 grit

After 1500 grit

If I had some 2000 grit paper handy, then I could've gotten a better finish. But it's flat as can be now, which is what matters anyway.

Check how the TIM was spreading before I lapped it.

Just some pics of the mess

I also switched to using the LGA775 mounting holes as an experiment to see whether it would give me better pressure than the LGA1366 holes.

And now for temps!

Before: 52-56c idle, 80-85c load
Now: 44-50c idle, 74-77c load

If those seem high to you, it's because my ambients never go below 30c where I live. But that's good enough for me considering where I was before.

I found what's wrong on mine. The 1 stock fan installed is facing the other way. It's not actually blowing air to the radiator but instead, it's sucking air from it. LOWL! That is why when I touch the radiator, it's a little warm. Here's for you jethro_static

So you had the outter fan blowing air out air from the chassi and the other one blowing air in the chassi? Or both blowing air out? I've heard both ways are bad and both ways are good.

I'm really not sure at the moment.

Hi there, do you have your fans on the RAD set as intake? The rad does much better if your sucking in fresh air from outside of the case. Also, you wanna make sure the cooler is seated tightly on the chip. What CFM are the fans your using?
