X25-V, or Vertex 2

Thread Starter
Now I know the Vertex 2 is the better choice, but it DOES cost more and money is pretty tight.

I'm only looking to run my OS, and a few apps.

The X25-V is $89 no rebate
The Vertex 2 is $104 AR

I still can't decide .. I may just go with the Vertex 2, cause I will need to upgrade eventually.

How big is the Vertex 2? If it's 60GB, go with the Vertex. If it's just the 40GB, hmm, bit of a coin toss, albeit I'm leaning towards Intel given the price difference. From recent trends, Intel SSD's appear to be one of the most reliable but performance-wise, it's beaten by the Vertex 2 in pretty much everything.

For ~$110, I wouldn't buy less than 60GB. Lots of 60GB Sandforce drives often go on sale for $105~110. If you've got a MicroCenter nearby, I think they have their version for $100.

Vertex 2 or C300.

It use to be that Intel was for people looking for more space in their SSD for cheaper/same price. IDK if that still applies, but in terms of speed one of two mentioned above.

Go with the OCZ. That should be one of the 34nm models since it's an earlier model with 27% spare area.
