Whats the best way to remove ATI drivers for new ATI card install

Thread Starter
I have a 5670 with CCC 10.12 installed.

IN 6 DAYS, I will order a 6870

How do I go about removing all the necessary drivers, so I can get a clean install.

And if it all goes wrong, I could reformat my primary HDD, but I don't want do...

Just download the new version and it will remove your current drivers for you and then update them. I have done that almost every time and it always works fine. It's probably the best way, don't use driver sweeper, it'll mess it up for you.

it won't mess anything up if you do it right.

I've used driver sweeper 273362627 times and no issues yet.

Use the control panel if your scared to mess something up.

The more recent versions of driver sweeper and the drivers don't work well. I've had problems using it and many others. Its best to avoid that. No harm in using the uninstaller included with the CCC package.

you must have failed to use your deductive reasoning skills, as it's not difficult at all

Do it in this order.

1.) Uninstall drivers through the control panel

it will ask you to reboot. say yes and hit F8 as it boots up and choose Safe Mode

2.) Run the latest version of Driver Sweeper and remove everything that shows up for AMD

3.) Open the Device Manager and uninstall the graphics card(s) from there

4.) Reboot

Look up AMD website for instruction on installing a new driver. There is no need to run driver sweeper unnecessarily unless you run into issues and trying to eliminate possibility. Just uninstall the old drives using control panel. Reboot. Install the new drivers and you are done. There is no point going those extra steps.

Yea, I clearly need a lecture on how to remove drivers. :/
As I said, If i use driver sweeper I generally get problems (most of the time CCC refuses to install after) so I just remove using the driver package. Whether you uninstall them with driver sweeper or through the uninstaller makes no real difference.

This is very true.

I use those steps when I am/was having problems haha biggrin.gif

:edit:
and Razi3l you have to uninstall CCC before you use driver sweeper. it does make a difference mostly because it removes all the ACE and Overdrive and registry stuff a normal uninstall leaves behind.
