My computer suddenly doesn't detect the front panel jack?

Thread Starter
Ok suddenly Realtek doesn't detect my front panel audio jack, Im using the latest drivers, HD Connectors from the case, and HDA on the BIOS, Now if I plug the Microphone, It detects it and shows a notification, but when I plug in the headphones, it won't. Why is this?

+rep to those who can help!

Has the headphone been working all along and then suddenly it just does not work?
Any recent change to hardware/software/driver upgrades?
In Device Manager, every device is in good working order?
(I have assumed you have plugged in the pins onto the mobo correctly...etc...etc. All these basics are checked)

Suggestions:
1. Have you tried using the rear audio ports of your motherboard to check your headphone?
This step should eliminate the possibility of a faulty headphone.

2. In BIOS, under Advanced Menu-->Chipset-->Audio Controller, set the Front Panel Type to AC97 instead of HD Audio. Does this work ok?
This step should eliminate the possibility that the front panel of your Tempest EVO is the older AC97 spec.

3. When you install the latest Realtek driver (64-bit) as offered in Asus' site (http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=y014Wy067iZxxPeP), did you also use Drive Sweeper to clean out the old stuff?

4. Lastly and most importantly, try
Quote:
1. Click the windows logo
2. Click the control panel
3. Click the Realtek Hd audio manager
4. Click the Device advance settings
5. Make sure the mute the rear device, when a front headphone is plugged in is checked.
6. Go back to the previous page. Then if you take a leep of faith and click the small yellow folder button, that you have to look for, trust me it is not a decrative feature and it is not labeled. It's below device adance settings and above the anolog heading to the right just under the line, that is the best description I can give sorry. If you are not sure just start clicking randomly in that area and you might hit it. Why not label a button?
7. On that pop up select both the
- Disable front panel jack detection
- Enable auto pop up when a device is pluged in. (selected by default)

And the headphones just kicked in.

This method basically follows the steps here:

The tricky part is ''Check the 'Disable front panel jack detection' option''.
