My sata config and IDE config are both set to AHCI. This correct?

I don't understand this question. What do you mean by SATA and IDE config?

Yes.

I needed to change SSD to AHCI for better SSD performance. But has whats called IDE config and I can choose to keep it IDE or change that too to AHCI?

What should external sata 6gb/s be? IDE or AHCI
post #6 of 9
I don't think you get to select your controller interface on a port by port basis. It's not a mode like DMA for example. I believe your controller will use either AHCI or IDE, so if you set it to AHCI for your SSD then everything will run through AHCI, which is no problem. It's a general sata standard.

AHCI is what you want to set it to for the best SSD performance.

your ide ports shouldn't even offer the option to be ahci, I know mine don't.
I think I know what you mean, my mobo has mode settings to add the ide to a raid, but it doesn't have ahci in the list.
Don't think ide would be compatible with it anyway, part of AHCI is so you can plug and play hard drives, ide isn't capable of that at all.

So you're talking about the BIOS and the setting for different controllers? Not just the Intel one? In that case it wouldn't matter unless you have drives connected to them. But I would use AHCI for anything that allows it.

Actually, I would disable any controllers that don't have any drives connected.
