is crossfire worth it on my MOBO

Thread Starter
so i bought an HIS 6870 last night now im wondering if a second one down the line should be in my near future, heres my isue the MOBO in my sig has 2 pcie 2.0 x16 slots but when you run 2 cards in crossfire it changes them to x8 so idk if it would even be worth adding the second card, would it even make that big of a difference? i plan on overclockin both of the cards if that makes a difference let me know thanks.

The difference between 16x and 8x is next to nothing. Crossfire is worth it but like every thing you need to consider if youll need it. Youll see a good improvement in FPS and if you benhmark at all it will greatly improve your score. But if your getting 60+ FPS in games with one card and you dont benchmark then there is really no need.

Yes it's worth it.
Real question is, will fxiv benefit from CFX?

i think the FPS difference is like 5% to 15% different from x16 slots and depending how well the game takes advantage of your cards that could mean anywhere from a1 to 20 FPS difference

lul wut? There's definitely a difference if you've ever seen a benchmark between the two. Even older gen cards will take a performance hit going from 16x to 8x.

Now that said, it depends on the card, the game, and the rest of your configuration. It's interesting to note that NVidia cards don't take as big of a hit goign from 16x to 8x.

This was figured out back when the X38's first came out.

All that said, it may not be applicable to your situation BECAUSE, again it depends on how the game will utilize CFX.

Honestly, I think it's worth spending an hour or two researching if anyone has done benchmarks using FFXIV.

You may not find anything, but it's better than going out to buy a second card and end up disappointed.

well the benchmark pretty much tells you nothing, people have run it got high scores but still had lag issues
