Asus M4A79XTD EVO, Primary PCIE Slot Stuck on 2X

Thread Starter
My Primary PCIE slot is malfunctioning and only running at 2x, I'm going to replace the motherboard soon. I'm wondering if this is a common occurrence?

It's not a bios or software problem, and it is also preventing from using my second 5870 in crossfire. I just need to be patient hope that a quality 990x motherboard appears in the next month or so.

Also I should mention that my frame rates are only 10-20% better using my other PCIE slot that is running at 8x.

Check the actual PCI-E traces on the card itself? or the ones on the mobo? (i.e. blow away dust)

I wish that fixed it but it didn't, I tried. Both cards get 2x using that slot, dust isn't much of an issue with this system(well not yet). I'm afraid that it has probably been like this since the day I got it, I never bothered to check until I couldn't get my new 5870 to work in crossfire.

Dunno if it's common or not, but mine's working at 16x; check the link in my sig.

I'm sure it isn't very common, Its a decent motherboard, if I can get a good deal on one after the new AMD chip-set comes out, ill buy another just so I don't need new RAID drivers. I guess my only concern with this motherboard is that it only has a 4 pin power cable(might explain why I can't get that voltage higher than 1.6 on my 955).

ALL SYSTEMS ARE GO!!!! I just received an open box ASUS m4a79t deluxe, installed and immediately saw results. The motherboard was refurbished, came with everything but the SATA cables, but I have plenty to spare. The RAID drivers are the same as the m4a79xtd evo, so it was a very smooth transition. I guess the only problem is that my primary GPU is about 15C hotter under load(I'm using generic white TIM with that block).

Also there is about an 40-80% increase in my frame rates, vs. my old motherboard. Let alone crossfire mode(which only adds about 30-60% on top of that).

The generic white TIM may need some time to cure... you may see somewhat better results after
Nice!

LOL its been there for a while, I merely stated that as an excuse for the radical temperature increase under water cooling. I will change the paste, modify and remount the backplates once I get a water-block for my secondary GPU (it isn't running very hot so this could be several months). This is also a difference from 45C to 60C.

Although on the TIM subject I did just buy large tube of AC MX-2. So far a 1c reduction vs. TUNIQ MX-2, but everything is running a bit hotter now so the difference is probably better than that. This just my CPU block I didn't take the time to redo my GPU block.

Results are getting better, @ 4.23 Ghz Im getting 52c full load, vs the 56c I was seeing at 4.21 ghz. (prime 95 stable).
