You aren't going to be reading the forums if you own the company.

If you're such a fair person, why don't they refund his money if he were to be banned for simple statements?
You undestimate the value of branding and company culture. Being told you "sold your soul to the devil" is most definitely not a "simple statement."

But I will specifically answer your "damages" questions.

The poster could have said to have damaged both bioware and EAs reputation. This could potentially hurt game sales, pre-order sales, company image, developer image. This becomes exponentially more important the more "viral" his statement becomes. The more people that see his statement the more damaging it becomes. There is no doubt that his msg is considered defemation and slander.

Once again, words hold considerable power and to disregard them is very naive.

If you would like an example, look at No Doubt suing Activion. They are not suing necessary for their "likeness" being used, but because the songs the "likeness" were forced to sing. If I remember correctly they stated it was "damaging to their image," among other various charges.

That is just one example. There is a TON more.

EDIT: All this makes it a bit strange that three years ago EA told Shack News that they’d certainly not allow forum bans to affect game playing.

“Posting in EA Forums is enabled by an EA Nucleus account — but access to the forums and access to the games are separate. Players who have been banned from EA Forums are not automatically banned from online access to their other EA games. Players can be banned if they breach the Terms of Service or Code of Conduct in a forum, game or service. Each forum, game and service is managed independently by customer support representatives responsible for that specific forum, game or service.â€

So, er. Thanks to kyrieee for the tip.

EDIT EDIT: The moderator responsible for dealing with this incident has got back to us. I asked him to explain why this happens, and for how long a ban could potentially last. His reply, quite bizarrely, was:

“Sorry, but I have no comment for you.â€

So there you go.

Because it's automated and no one reviews them. Plus the OP did nothing to warrant a ban.

Very similar bro.

Cop out time

Anyway, according to EA it "was a glitch"

http://kotaku.com/#!5781198/player-b...devil-a-glitch

So after making the circuit of the big gaming sites, "it's not a feature, it's a bug!"

This AFTER a Bioware rep posted "this is what you get for not following the rules."

See, once it got enough attention they had to say something. Even if it is a laughable statement.

Now you've done it. Good luck playing your EA games after saying something as outrageous as that.
