6870 crossfire or upgrade

Thread Starter
Hi, I currently have a PowerColour 6870, and I can't seem to be running new games at max with a good FPS, example I'm running Rift all maxed out with only 10 fps, or WoW all maxed out with like 20-25 fps.
So I was wondering if its better to get a second 6870 for a crossfire, or just sell it and buy a 5970, 6950-70 or gtx 570 ?

No, what you need is to overclock your cpu or upgrade your cpu/motherboard. Rift and WoW are very cpu dependent, and amd processors are much slower than intel's new sandy bridge processors, trust me i've had both.

Well if your past 30 day return it'd be easier to crossfire the AMD 6870. It'd better than a single AMD 6970 or comparable to a single GTX 580 benchmarks where two cards can be utilized.

If your thinking of just buying up to a better card, my opninon is either the AMD 6970 or GTX 570.

You can read up on it and make your own decision and what fits your needs better. Sapphire AMD 6970 $359.99 or EVGA GTX 570 $349.99. Definite step up from a single AMD 6870 but if you crossfire your getting more FPS at $420.00 for two PowerColor AMD 6870's.

Let us know which way you went. My biggest advice is read up yourself on the cards first. Do your own homework before making up your own mind. Your PSU can handle the AMD 6870 crosfire or the single AMD 6970 or GTX 570 just fine.

Find the reviews from a few different places like AnandTech, Legit Reviews, or Benchmark Reviews. Always read up to make that informative decision.

Have you overclocked your CPU, CPU-NB and GPU?

If so to what settings?

I say 6870 crossfire personally, it's a formidable setup, and will kick the crap out of all the other cards you listed when properly supported (which is almost all modern games now).

I'll be throwing a 2nd 6850 and a 1090t into my rig as soon as the $$ are flowing. I guess that's the real question, how much money do you have to throw down?

i have about ~250 $, if I don't get another 6870, ill sell my current 6870 and have 350-400$ budget.
Also I can get another 6870 for 200$ so if a crossfire 6870 is better than the gtx 570 or the 6970 than i'll go with it lulz
