Thats a bit rediculous you gotta admit. (sadly though, very common perspective)
It's not so much mother nature here, we're (they're) just unlucky. And after all, we colonize most of this planet, so what can we expect? It's just with modern technology, these things are reported and broadcasted almost immediately, i'm sick of people going "OH NOES THE SKY IS FALLING THE END IS NIGH!". No, just shut up.
I doubt there's anything hugely out of the ordinary here apart from the fact that this was a large quake.
Lets face it, this rock we're sitting on is just that, a rock, and it's not here to humour us or keep us alive. It's ability to sustain life is just another passing phase of it's existence. For me, that realization makes me treasure life more, and i hope the casualties arn't too great. It's a shame that this has happend.
It [nature] giveth, it can taketh away. That demands respect.Edited by Thingamajig - 3/11/11 at 3:42pm
