Installing android and wp7 on the hd2 (sd/ram)

Ok thought i would make a guide to installing android and custom roms on the hd2, as most sources i found werent very clear and most the time don't work (or very well).
This guide is to install android or wp7 on to your sd card or into your ram
*****It wont make any changes to your WM 6.5 system*******
but i suggest that you back up your stuff, basically you will boot into WM then select android or wp7 to boot from your sdcard, reset your phone and your back in WM.
****Most people from stock will need to follow all steps****

*DO NOT start another process while the flashing process is taking place*
*DO NOT click off of the status bar... Let it stay in the foreground*
*DO NOT let the Screensaver (on your pc) activate*
Any of these can lead to a bad flash and possibly brick your phone

*FLASH HARDSPL BEFORE FLASHING ANY CUSTOM ROMS OR RADIOS*

1. YOUR DEVICE MUST HAVE AT LEAST 50% BATTERY POWER FIRST BEFORE ATTEMPTING EACH STAGE

Anyway now you have the basic idea of it lets get started.
First off you want to check Your radio version this info is also displayed on the bottom left corner (the numbers after the alphabets R,D,G) of your initial boot up white screen with green HTC logo.
For those with Radio > 2.08.50.xx you can install Android,
skip the updating radio stage smile.gif. (most people will need a radio update)
Alot of android builds will tell you what radio works best etc, you can also get improved signal and battery life from newer radios.

Ok First up SPL
To check your version Turn phone off > Press and hold Volume down button >briefly press release power button >SPL version is displayed on bootloader screen (Red/Green/White)
To install/uninstall this HSPL3 there must be any SPL version from this list on your device:
SPL 1.42.0000, SPL 1.62.0000, SPL 1.66.0000, SPL 2.07.0000, SPL 2.08.0000, SPL 2.10.0000, SPL 3.03.000.

NOTE: If you have Vista or Windows 7, update WMDC to v6.1 first
NOTE: Turn OFF any AntiVirus Program first as it WILL interefere with the flash (there is NO harmful code in the program)

Installing HardSPL4 via ActiveSync with USB Lead

1. Download HardSPL4 package from Here and extract to an empty folder
2. Synch Phone with PC in Windows Mobile!!! It has to be connected to activesync or WMDC via USB cable
3. Run HSPL4.exe from your pc and read all the text carefully
4. When finished reading click next in the HardSPL program
5. The program will now check the usb connection and enter bootloader screen (tri colour)
Android / WP7 / MAGLDR don't support HSPL3.03/OSPL3.03.
You need HSPL2.08 to run Android / WP7 / MAGLDR
6. Select 2.08.HSPL OR 3.03HSPL for HardSPL and click NEXT.
7. Your choice will be flashed to your phone.
8. When its finished the phone will reboot.
9. Click ok to terminate program.
10. Congrats, you just flashed HardSPL.

Ok we are half way there biggrin.gif.

Radio update Is a fair bit easier agian we are going to do it synced to the pc.
1. Download your required Radio and rename the extracted file to RUU_Signed.nbh
2. Sync your phone with the PC
3. Run CustomRUU.exe from the Radio's Folder and follow the instructions (if one isnt included then download it )
To run android you will need 2.12-2.14 i believe (ill check this and add some links to radios soon).

Ok now we are ready for android, WM or any custom roms you may want to install smile.gif. ONCE YOU HAVE FLASHED A HARDSPL ITS PERMANENT. YOU DONT NEED TO DO IT AGAIN WHEN FLASHING NEW ROMS OR RADIOS.

Booting android
1) download the version of android you want.
2) extract it and copy the "android" folder to the root of your sd card eg. E:android.
3)reset your phone
4) browse in WM to the android folder
5)Run CLRCAD - Nothing seems to happens - This is normal. !!!
Run HARET - Small pop up window with grey progress bar appears with message HaRET LINUX BOOTING - You should then see some text lines in the top left corner of the screen and then a Splashscreen (blank screen with a HTC logo) Please be patient and allow time for the initial bootup and set up of android.

And thats it enjoy android smile.gif.

Im currently running my custom version of darkstones superRAM froyo rom.
It loads into the ram and runs from it making it insanely fast and mean insane!!!!!!!. Ive also tweaked the sytem somewhat and will be releasing a custom rom of my own soon.
If you have any problems feel free to contact me.
Also any donations are appreciated smile.gif, pm me if you would like to make one.

Ill be updating this soon.

what that seems really complicated just to flash a new OS to your phone.

My droid was so much easier. I am running cyanogenmod 7 RC1 on it.

believe what you want but a HD2 doesn't run android stock, it runs winmo so it'd take a few more steps over its native android counterparts(especially if your dual booting it with win mo 7, which you cannot to on any android phones to my knowledge).

SKI, how about you try putting some pictures in, its a bit boring and a little hard to understand without any. Otherwise, nice guide smile.gif

this.

and in the end, the hd2 running android OS will outperform the Motorola droid.

Failed to mention that when running WP7 on the HD2 you have to call Microsoft an ask for an authenticaion code. Without it your Live services are not going to work. If you tried 2 months ago, they were giving them out left and right. Now it's hard to get one, with having to fax in reciepts, phone bills and proof of purchases.

I wish this was around when I had my HD2. It was a great phone but the Windows version on it held it back. It would lock up all the time and it was really laggy.

Don't really see why you would get and HD2 and stick with windows when you can get android on it.

I know the HD2 will probably be faster then the droid, but if you compared an HD2 with all the stock HTC software to a droid with CM7 on it. No way the HD2 is faster. Not possible with all the crappy bloatware that HTC puts on it. having sense on a phone is like hooking a 500lb lead brick to your car.

yes the orginal HD2 running wm 6.5 wasnt doing the hardware justice.

Really isn't that much faster then my phone. My phone doesn't rank on the graph in the same place as what they show it.
