I have a 5970 in my machine at the moment, however I'm ever so slightly tempted by the new 6990.

But after reading some posts and certain reviews, i've started looking at the 6970 CF.

Which would you say and why?

Just to clarify:

6990 or 6970 CF

edit - it will be replacing the 5970.

I would def go with the one card over 2 anytime. Especially if the 1 card is greater or even close to the 2 cards strength. In this case its one card with 2 chips, but still. HD 6990 it is.

I guess money is not an issue? Or else you wouldnt be trying to upgrade from a HD 5970 to a HD 6990. If money was a motivator you might just add a $200 HD 5870 to your setup for a better bump in performance.

I voted 6990. Runs slightly slower stock, but takes up less space and should (theoretically) run cooler on average. Plus the ability to expand later, although Quad scaling is questionable.

Money is kind of an issue, but i'd hope to get a good sale on the 5970 so wouldn't have to fork out that much extra.

I'm a sucker for the big powerful stuff so I'm still leaning towards the 6990, thanks for the replies so far, keep them coming.

6970 Crossfire : It'll cost you less money since the avaibility of the 6990 is really making the price rise.

They perform the same don't they? But a single card would give you more space and will allow you to add another 6990 making it 4 GPUs. The power consumption is the same in both cases. So my vote goes to 6990.
