When Do AM3+ motherboards come out? - Page 2

Are you asking if with a bios upgrade your board will support an AM3+ CPU? Because it won't. AMD said themselves in no uncertain terms that AM3+ cpus will not under any circumstances run on AM3 mobos.

At least MSI and AsRock have already confirmed 800 series chipset boards that include a AM3 socket. I believe that they are just a new revision of older boards where essentially the only difference is the socket itself. Whether they are on the market now or not (I believe they are) I am not 100% sure.

However, what I think most of us are really waiting for are the 900 series chipsets with said AM3+ socket. Crosshair V anyone?

The 800 series ones I estimate will be out within the month. Gigabyte and ASRock have already announced theirs.

well since it has been said that some 890 boards which is the crosshair CHIPSET will support bulldozer with BIOS update then it might work. So yes I can read and yes you are being a douche and I just made you look stupid.

But half the people say this is true and half say it isn't.. So we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Yea I read in hardware news that the Gigabyte 890 boards with black sockets wil be able to bios update to bulldozer too. Again just speculation.

it doesnt matter if the chipset supports bulldozer
the am3 socket has 941 pins while you need the am3+ socket with 942 pins.
So the chipset is fine with the bios upgrade, but you can't magically add a pin to the cpu socket with a bios upgrade
edit: you can put an am3 cpu in an am3+ board as there are enough holes in the am3+ socket, just that one won't be occupied

The chipset and socket have no direct relationship. The new revision of that Gigabyte board has a AM3+ socket. Your Crosshair IV however is a AM3. It won't fit. This has been confirmed by AMD and by JF on these forums. You are setting yourself up for disappointment.
