How to make H70 cool better?

Thread Starter
I have a corsair H70 for a couple months now and it works very well. I do however want to make it a bit more efficient at cooling as when under heavy load at 4ghz it gets to 75-80degree's. Is changing the fans the only way to make it cooler better??

Better fans might net you 2-3C. The weakest parts of the H70 are not the fans, but the weak pump/block and the rad.

It is the other way around. The 1155 CPUs are that chilly. From that get go Nehalem is 130W, and Sandybridge (without IGP) is a mere 80W. On top of that most Nehalems have locked multipliers so you have to drive the FSB to OC.

oh ok so u think i should just deal with it until something better comes along?? they talked them up so much when they first come out so decided to get 1. It's only just going into autumn here in australia so once the ambient temps start dropping im sure it'll follow suit. The temps dont hold there for very long it's more like a spike a few times but i would love to have it sitting around the 60 degree mark all the time.

There's a lot you can do but you will likely see minimal results.

Here's mine, modified with an additional 120 rad and a micro res.
Temps on my 950 are 42c idle, 62-65c load (non bench), bench load is about 69c.

Here is some way I have seen.

1. Replace thermal paste obviously lol
2. Add push pull fans as intake for coolest air, however hot air goes straight into your case so I like exhaust push pull better.
3. I have seen some people mod the h50. They use their own tubing and add a resevior then run it to the radiator. This improved cooling a lot.
4. You can lap the cooler and your cpu.
