In GTA 4, with SLi/CF, what effect does 2x the VRAM have on VRAM dependent settings?

You all know the VRAM usage in the settings menu,

With 2 cards:

Can you increase the detail distance/..../...., past what you could with just 1 card?

You know what I mean right?

nvidia SLI drivers for GTA 4 are very buggy since the beginning. Seems like nvidia has given up on this game
But with CF/more Ram, you can increase the details and distances

Doesn't matter if you have one card or four, the vram is the same.

This is the answer you were looking for. This applies to all games not just GTA IV. When using SLI/Crossfire the same frame buffer data is mirrored across all the cards so your really only using the amount of VRAM that one GPU has available to it not the sum of all the VRAM. This applies to dual GPU cards as well so for example the 6990 is advertised as having 4GB VRAM and while that is technically true each GPU is only using 2GB so it is more accurately 2GB x2.

The textures and other data are mirrored on each card's VRAM, so you get the same effective VRAM. (This appplies to dual GPU cards as well, EFFECTIVE VRAM is generally 1/2 of what the manufacturer claims)
