Apparently OpenGL is easier to code than DirectX (Going from what Manyak said there, he said it took half the code to open a window and draw a triangle in OpenGL than it does in DX or something?) but from a user perspective, OpenGL is more fluid at lower fps and considering nearly every game hasn't taken full advantage of DX10 or DX11 yet, I doubt there is much of a difference at all, it is sad that devs bought into MS' marketing and made OpenGL and DX what it is today, OpenGL at least was better.
i smell gasoline...

one thing that has hurt OpenGL in the game industry was their lack of a specific game fork for it, 3dfx tried to create one, but we all know what happened with 3dfx

but unlike dx, OpenGL has a lot more uses than just as a game API, and it is multiplatform...

that might not mean anything right now, but there is a lot of technology setting on the horizon, that windows will not run on, well not for at least a few more years..so who knows how this tide will come in the end...

All ID games are OGL, at least past and present, future might be another problem.

Nvidia always has OGL performance, they cater to linux after all.

Yes, but legacy support add complexity... i.e. cap bits. Do you want to program a game for discrete pixel pipelines while also supporting programmable shaders?

Also, don't forget you can still play legacy DX games in DX11. You just can't play DX11 games in DX9.
Once again...

Are we talking about drawing a shape here? As far as I remember, it's pretty much the same thing

DirectX

{0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f},

OpenGL

glVertex3f( 0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f);

DirectX wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have to deal with COM and Microsoft's butt-ugly syntax.
Code:
THISISAREALLYLONGTYPENAMEBECAUSEIFITWASNTTHENIWOULDFORGETWHATITDOES tiarltnbiiwtiwfwid = 0;
Whenever I want to do something in OpenGL I usually find a link to some website saying its conveniently built into Direct3D, but in OpenGL you have to do it all yourself.

OpenGL is cleaner, but yea, DirectX is probably better. The differences are really only noticeable to the programmer though, just like you can't tell the difference between a program written in C and one written in C++ or C#.

Users notice a difference when it manifests itself in fps or features (ex tessilation)

If I'm grinning it's C++.
If I'm indifferent it's C#.
If I'm crying it's C.
