AsRock P67 Extreme6 OC - little tips?

Hi,

I was trying to OC my 2500K, and was using the UEFI on stop "turbo" 4.4 GHz profile. I was running Prime when something bad happened and it borked up my SSD.

So, my question is once I get this thing back up, should I stay away from that one stop shop for OC, and use either UEFI manual settings or the ATX utility via Windows?

This board should be a good OC'er (based on what some of the Extreme4 users are getting).

I love my ASRock Extreme4
Anyways what I did was use the auto overclock option but manually adjust the voltage since different CPU's work at certain OC with different voltages.
Hope this helps .

I guess I can't complain, 4.4 GHz without changing anything other than the multi. I'm happy with it right now, and I'm folding so I'm not too interested in pushing it further (right now)

Hi there,

Check my settings for Extreme4

http://min.us/mvrHs6

You will probably have to pump more juice (vCore) because my chip is golden one.

TTT, I'm having a few issues. I finally got the chip to 4.5, but then I started having issues with drivers (going from B2 to B3) so I reinstalled windows and everything else.

I was a little disheartened when @ 4.5 GHZ i set VCore to 1.46 but it would still show up in CPU-Z, HWMonitor, & the AsRock tuning utiliy in the mid 1.3 range. I'm assuming that's vdroop...what should I do about it.

Also, radier, it looks like you set your VCore, manually, to 1.7....WTH? lol

That screenshot shown only max vCore. I am using LLC 5 + 0.040V offset.

Heh, so THAT'S how that screen works. It's MAX Vcore...I thought that
"was" vcore. So, um, erm...

Yeah, I'm dumb, how to a tweak voltage in this UEFI? I'm assuming using the offset to "push it up"? What should I set max Vcore at? And is there anyway to disable speedstep? When I load into windows and first turn on CPU-Z it will sometimes drop down to 1600 MHz...I know that's normal, but is there anyway to stop it (like turning off CnQ in AMD?)

Tried to get it into windows @ 4.6....1.45 vcore didn't do it, auto other voltages, extra settings (C1E, etc) all disabled. I was a little scaed to touch the other voltages, but I'm assuming that's where I have to go?

That vcore that you saw on the screenshot was just the "VID" setting. That's the voltage the CPU would request it be sent, in order to be able to POST at that speed. That doesn't mean that the CPU would be stable, just that it would be able to power up. I'm not exactly sure how the VID works. It's either calibrated by Intel directly, based on some tests they do, or maybe it's something the CPU knows how to request. I really don't know. But two identical cpu's, even in the same batch, can have different default VIDS.

I will add that the lower the default VID is at stock speed (34x100 on 2600k; 2500k's can have even lower vids but start at lower speeds), this is often an indication that the CPU may be a good overclocker.

That VID shown is assuming you're not using offsets, and only using auto voltages. Offsets require some careful calculation and testing to use, and they're only used when people want to reduce the frequency and vcore at idle, while having a desired vcore reached at full load. This setting usually needs some loadline calibration to work properly.
