Help me at overclocking

Thread Starter
My previous thread wasn't helpfull enough. My 8600GT's, again.
When overclocking, my game crashes. I monitor everything via MSI afterburnet. from core clock to fan speed.

These are my settings:

Stock:
540 Core
1188 Shader
400 Memory

OC'd:

600 Core
1342 Shader
450 Memory

It crashes. and i have no benefits from de-overclocking it. I tried to increase voltage using EasyTune 5.

What should i do nexT?

maybe the cards, or one of them, doesn't like settings that high. If you can't go further, settle for the highest stable settings.

My 4850 won't go further than 725MHz Core and 1GHz mems, and i see plenty of cards going up to 770-800MHz...

the problem might be the overclockability of the chip, or since you are running SLI, one of them can't go further without losing stability.

What temps are you getting on the chips?

Try overclocking each card by themselves and see which one is holding you back. What kind of memory modules are on the board itself? Hynix? Samsung?

for starters leave the shaders alone and try to get a max stable core/mem clock you can see that i even downclocked my shaders for 100% stability

On an 8600GT, the memory is the bottleneck. Especially on the DDR2 versions. I would know, I got my 8600GT core to 1070 MHz and my shader to 2200 MHz and i didnt see any difference without overclocking the memory on a DDR3 version.
