We own 2 Acer notebooks and my mother in law owns one. None of the ones my wife, daughter, and mother in law own have dedicated graphics. They only use them for internet and entertainment in mainstream ways. They are fully satisfied with their Acer's.
It is reasonable and besides, I am a gamer looking for a notebook and am considering an acer myself with a dedicated card. SO, If the mother in law wants a decent low cost notebook, looks ok to me. Although I would suggest looking around and comparing hardware and price to get the most for your money.

Yup, its fine. And acer usually makes a good product. I would buy it, open it up reinstall windows for her (to remove the bloatware) Install firefox/chrome, and whatever, then change the desktop to a picture of you and your wife, or something. She will most likely be touched that you bought it for her, and love the desktop wallpaper when she turns it on when you leave.

We have been keeping an eye open for quite a few months now. Her price range is $500 and so far it seems i-3 2 or 4 gigs of ram or 320 or 500gig HD is the norm. also what is the 380M integrated graphics right? I just wanted to know if these were reliable, all she will be doing is internet.

This would be my first time purchasing a laptop, do they send a copy of Windows with it? or do I need to provide my disc and use the code on the back of the laptop?

380m is the processor model.. It gets a bit confusing cause nvidia uses XXXm too.

The integrated graphics are fine for videos and flash games.

Usually not, and unless its in the pictures/details (which its not) its safe to assume you will need to provide your own windows disc/iso and use the key on the laptop
