How high is too high for idle temps?

Thread Starter
Hey guys (and possibly gals),

I recently used someones awesome OCing tutorial on another thread and I have my cpu OC'd to 3.44Ghz. My idle temps are between 42C-45C. I am air cooled in a midtower case, with 2 GPU's that put off a lot of heat. So would you all be happy with those temps, or should I back it off? Also, I OC'd about 800Mhz and my temps only raised about 5-7C.

BTW, I'm going to run Prime 95 for a while when my wife and I watch a movie later this evening to see if Im stable. Im pretty sure I will be, but I just want to check.

Thanks!

Idle temperatures don't matter, it's all about load.

Idle is useless. Load is important.

Too high for Idle temps is the same as whats too high for load temps.
If your Idle temps are that high I would keep an eye on your CPU for a while while its running Prime.
It would not surprise me if your temps are too high. Idle on a V8 should not be that high.

If you are concerned about the lifespan of your processor, then having idle temps anywhere from 30C-55C is considered perfectly fine. A lot of mobile CPU's never go below 70C and they are fine for years to come. The important thing is staying below max temp which for Intel processors is usually between 95C and 105C, at all times. That will definitely start reducing your cpu lifespan.

Run linx and after ~5mins you get your max load temp. Use that value for comparison
