My favorite is Medieval 2 total war. Of course there is now Shogun 2 coming out next week which I will be buying since I liked the demo so much, you could try that out if you want to see how the game will look and feel a bit.

I bought Empire on a steam sale and played a few campaigns but still look medieval the best so far but shogun 2 might just be better.

You have Starcraft 2 and Civ 5, so just play those and save your money.

Although there is Broodwar on iCCup if you want a challenge.

They are all good, so it depends on the time period you enjoy most. I love Rome: Total War since I enjoy playing on the Mediterranean, but Medieval: Total War is awesome because you can play as many European nations. Empire was great because the world gets bigger and the Turn-based strategy gets more complex (because many improvements are on the map now). Napoleon is great, because its a fascinating time in history and fun to relive it.

People don't lie when they tell you they are all good. It depends on the time period and focus you are interested in.

@Snelan, thanks for reading OP....

@ Psyren, I dont really mind graphics but it would be a PLUS for me. And I dont care weather if its turn based, or real time based.

I am looking into Total war nap.
OK cool.

In that case, games that i enjoyed and that aren't that hard to get into:

Note: I play more TBS than RTS.

RTS:
- Rise of Nations
- Ground Control series (This is squad based, not base building)
- Age of Empires 2 + xpac (A must have!)

TBS:
- Chaos Overlords (Made in 1995, but i simply cannot overstate just how brilliant & addictive this game is once you got it down)
- Alpha Centauri (Made in 1998, similar to Civ *made by Firaxis as well*, but imo this game is far better than Civ in many areas. Worth a look if you enjoy Civ)
- Heroes of Might and Magic 3 & 5 (You can skip 1 and 2 imo, and 4 is a POS.)
- M.A.X - Mechanized Assault and Exploration (M.A.X 1 is really old too, but it has very compelling gameplay. Easy enough to learn, but hard to master)

Well that's enough just a few for now. Can post more if you need.

I remember playing MAX, that was such a good game. You can still get it on G.O.G, some german guys have also created a patch that allows tcp/ip lan based games!

Yeah i know. I bought it a few months ago on GoG.

Used to have the original discs as well, but i lost em

Brilliant game is brilliant. Tbh, i wouldn't want to play this game multiplayer with the "community"... All those years of knowledge D:

But yeah, MAX is deceptively easy

Here's another vote for Alpha Centauri. I firmly believe Firaxis could re-skin that game with modern graphics and sell it for $25.
