2600K voltage at 1.248

Thread Starter
Hi guys - new here.

I'm doing a fairly minor o/c to 4.2 on my 2600K. Two things are puzzling to me:

1. The processor speed keeps fluctuating between 3.99 and 4.19. Is there some reason it won't stay put at 4.2? It's got a constant 100% load.

2. I have vcore set to 1.2875, but processor voltage is showing 1.248. It's not moving at all, but I don't get why it's lower than my vcore setting. If it raise vcore it stays at 1.248.

Board is an Intel DP67BG. I know it's not the best overclocker, but I wanted an Intel board. Clock is at 100, multi at 42. Everything else is stock. Temp is 75 degrees under a full load. I'll add better cooling before I push it any more.

What's your voltage at 0% load? Many times processors experience what is known as "Vdroop" when jumping to full load, a process designed to help keep CPUs a little cooler and supposedly improves stability.

Here's an article that has some older but I believe still relevant information about vdroop: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2404/5

If the clocks are dropping it might be thermal throttling, though I can't say for sure, if you manage to bring your temps down a little bit it might help on that front.

Thanks for the help. I have the board set not to do thermal throttling until 80 degrees. I suppose it's possible, but that would be odd. The Intel board has 3 settings for vdroop and I have it set to minimum vdroop (which is maximum performance).

It's turbo.

Manually set all 4 turbo multipliers to 42x or whatever you want.

Set higher Turbo Limits (Watts) if there is such an option in yours BIOS. It will stop CPU throttling.

Turbo multipliers are set - that's how I'm choosing to o/c. I turned up the turbo voltage - no change.

I just noticed that it's got the correct voltage when not under load. Unless I'm mistaken, this has to be a vdroop issue.

Thanks guys.
