GPU 3 Client Problems - Page 2

You said you already tried each GTS 450 alone in a working rig last night?

I've tried 2 out of the 3 GPU's in my main rig lastnight/this morning. The 2 I tried loaded up and ran at 100% load fine by themselves. It's when I throw them into a machine with 2 or more GPU's does the problem occur.
To further add to the confusion, I now have my GTX480 folding in the same rig with one of the GTS450's, both running GPU3 clients, and both are under 100% load.
I really am starting to think it's a chipset problem. It seems to only happen on the MSI K9A2 Platinum board. Gonna check into latest BIOS version now and see if that helps.

I don't think the problem is mobo-specific. It seems to be an endemic problem related to the 450s--some combination of drivers and environment settings. I have 7 GTS 450s spread over 3 different mobos and they've all encountered this problem. It's hard to pin down and I can't find a single, verified, solution that ALWAYS works.

I built two dual-450 folding rigs based on MSI's NF750-G55 mobo with Windows 7 64-bit and they both have stability problems when folding. I get daily blue screens on those two machines. I've enabled Aero, updated drivers to the latest, made sure they're running at stock speeds, changed setting in the nVidia control panel 3D setting to "max performance" and they are still unstable. One machine also needs something else running (like a browser with Flash video loaded) to ensure the GPU runs at 99% when folding. All this points to a chronic driver problem.

Further proof that it's specific to the 450s is that I upgraded one of the original 450-based machines to dual 460s and they have been folding 24/7 for months with absolute stability.

I had a separate 3 x 450 folding machine based on a different mobo that ran faultlessly 24/7 for months, then I moved the machine to a new location, and when I rebooted, it started experiencing all the problems mentioned above.

I also have multiple 200-series cards that run perfectly for months at a time.

From what I've gleaned from countless forums, you need to ensure Aero is running (and some remote control programs, like VNC, disable Aero when in use, or they rely on a mirror driver which is incompatible with Aero). But other than that, nobody has been able to provide a clear, consistent solution to stability and performance problems when folding with 450s. And it's a shame, because they provide pretty good value when it comes to folding.

If anyone else has any ideas how to improve stability when folding with 450s, please let me know.

Well it's funny you post this today. On my other rig with a 480, and a gts 450 I noticed this this morning.

My 480 is staying at about 91-94% usage, and the same with the 450. But now for some reason, it's showing what the pic above does. (13k PPD outta a 450?)
And the other 3x 450's are at WAY low PPD no matter what I do. (part of that is the usage problem I'm sure)
So now I'm experiencing WAY more PPD then they should be putting out, and way less PPD.

Any ideas on that?
