Best way to connect pc to reciever - Page 4

Right now I have mine setup with a RCA audio jack at one end and 3.5mm PC jack at the other... defeats the purpose of quality surround since its truly pumping out in stereo but its cheap effective and cant really hear anything bad...

my next board ill be sure it has a Toslink connection

On my old pc I ran through the digital coax to my receiver and had signal noise, that ended up being irritating.... when I built my sig rig I went with the optical immediately and never looked back. The problem with electrical signal cables is that they act as an antenna to anything around them and I know between my rigs fans, and every other electronic device I have plugged in that is a lot of electrical noise. The optical cable is light and therefore cannot pick up extra signal noise. All in all it made my whole entertainment rig quieter.

Now, one thing I have noticed is that the overall signal level is quieter with optical, but since its signal noise level is lower I just turn my amp up a bit more, I have the head room on the amp anyway.

My amp does recognize different signal decoding from simple music files where it acts like a 2.1 or if I play a 5.1 netflix video it switches to the correct decoding, so it is passing sound packet opposed to rca which is modulation.

My video image was always a bit off with HDMI... maybe just my system.
