This. Additional codec packs are not necessary with the newest version of MPC-HC.

I don't think it's a CPU problem. I've got three HTPCs, all with dual core CPUs, and either a GT 220 or a 5570, and all of them play full 1080p absolutely flawlessly. I remember reading that the NVIDIA 9xxx series were bad at playing back .mkv files. Maybe pick up a cheap GT220 or something.

Unless faulty, neither CPU nor graphics cards are the cause of your problem.

Thread Starter
As I stated the problem fixed itself.... Now I am having the same issue when i have to watch 240x320 flash videos for online school, even in such a microscopic embedded box. It makes my entire system lag, and the Chrome process (Google Chrome browser) shows 60-70 in CPU column just like VLC had been.

So the issue is video players in general, although it's with the CPU, not the GPU... strange

I'll have to put more thought into it later, but for now, restarting the players when they do that (or duplicating tab in Chrome) seems to work.

What version of Chrome are you using? Make sure it's at 10, now. Update flash as well. Also, check drivers for your GPU.
