CPU temp high, e6700 3.2

Thread Starter
Newbie here, I just got a new cpu for an old crappy computer (dell inspiron 530) and I was trying to squeeze some more life out of it. The problem is even with applying arctic silver 5 after removing the old thermal compound the temp skyrockets when loading anything.

Using speedfan the temps are

:GPU 42C
temp1 86C
temp2 24c
temp3 -57c
core042c
core142c

When I load a program the core temps rise to between 75-85 within seconds. Any idea why that is or what I can do?

Have you ensured that the CPU cooler is correctly installed? Have you checked if it's seated flat agains the CPU? Also what CPU cooler are you using when OCing? If this is a stock heatsink then that could be one of the causes for this problem.

Have you also adjusted your tjmax for your cpu? For my Q6600 I had to set it to -10 for all 4 cores so it reads the correct temps for my CPU. Have a look at the Intel CPU section, in one of the stickies, they talk about tjmax and that should get you started in the right direction.

it does sound like you haven't fitted the cooler right.
double check
also download realtemp or coretemp for proper temp display
also is this overclocked?
