Thinking about a Vintage gaming computer

Playing vintage games on a modern computer can be really disappointing. The aspect ratios are all messed up, the textures are too low res for the screen size, and the controls just don't feel right.

I'm thinking about making a system just for playing retro games. Doom, Quake II, Might & Magic. Maybe a few of those crazy FMV games, like that one with Christopher Walken in it (dis guy... he's un-****ing-believable).

Plan on taking my uncle's old system from 2002 since that's the oldest computer I have around. It's got an AthlonXP 2600+ which I've overclocked a bit, 1GB of DDR400, and a Radeon X1300 256MB. Going to install a Creative Soundblaster Live! and Windows 98, hook it up to an old Sony Trinitron, some 90s bookshelf speakers, and an IBM Model M keyboard... Mmmmm, nostalgia.

I've got an old PIII running Win98SE and a 15" LCD just for that.

Monkey Island and Wolfenstein 3D... good times.

Btw some old games play like they're fast forwarding and you'll need some software to slow down that "fast" CPU to run smooth. Or run a 99% underclock lol.

There are a few games like that, but you have to go back to the 80286 days for those. I'm not quite that vintage.
