870a-g54 mobo won't work with GPU after volt mod, GPU is ok.

Ok guys,

I originally posted this in the ATI section but discovered that my GPU is actually fine and this is a problem with my mobo.

I pencil modded a HD 5750 (core), it worked fine.

I then went to volt mod the core more and also the vmem.

This then caused the GPU to display weird memory artifacts on the screen.

Obviously I though this was a GPU problem, but it was not. This GPU works perfect still in every other mobo I tried which is now back at stock volts.

I then tried the GPU is the second PCI-E slot. Same problem.

After I lot of testing and swapping, I find that the 5750 makes my computer either not POST with no BIOS beeps OR boots and then display these weird artifacts when under any sort of activity.

However my HD 5450 still works perfect in this mobo.

What is wrong with my motherboard?

Computer specs in sig.

Lol no please read the OP.

GPU works perfectly in any other motherboards.

I did a 12 hour GPU stress test, gaming benchmarks, it worked perfectly and passed all of them.

It does not work in my motherboard.

But an other GPU (5450) works perfect.

Yup, sorry if the two GPU's make it confusing.

So to try and clear this up.

The HD 5750 will not work in my current mobo (the 870a-g54) but works perfect in any other motherboard. So the GPU is not the problem which makes me suspect that the problem is with the mobo.

But my mobo runs with a HD 5450 perfectly which complicates the whole situation.

Power supply could be a culprit.
As you did not say if the systems where the 5770 works have a different Power Supply.
Otherwise motherboard may be in culprit maybe nor supplyeing enough amps tru the PCI-E slot for the moded thing.

Different PSU, I did try the 5750 using the PSU's 6-pin and a adapter that uses 2x molex.

Please not the 5750 is now running at stock. But I think it must be the PCI-E slot, however my motherboard has 2x PCI-E slots and they both do the same thing.

Any ideas?

I have no idea if its the PSU or motherboard.

I think it's the motherboard, the PSU is 700w and only a few months old.

I took the 5750 to a friends, I don't actually have a spare PSU or mobo.

Luckily he has a spare multimeter and ASUS mobo I'm gunna lend to do more testing.

I'm hoping it's the mobo so I can just buy his ASUS off him.

I will update the thread once I have found the culprit.

Still find it weird how overvolting my 5750 broke the mobo or PSU before the actual card.
