I changed my gpu from a GTX460 to a HD6950 in the last 2 days and was greeted with the freeze or lockup of death!

Nothing has changed bar the gpu and i was able to have AB and everyother program i wanted on my second monitor without any issue at all.

I used to have AB, coretemp, realtemp, gpuz, cpuid, msn, steam friends etc etc no problem and with a heavy oc through afterburner.

Now my second screen is blank .... with this ati card

No freezes as yet... have gamed for abit over an hr so far as before i would get no more than 30min in and bam! Lockup which needed manual reset.

My specs... 2500K@4.5-asrock ext6-gskill 4gig ram, seagate 1tb hdd, Tt 750w.

Only my second ati card so far and have not been impressed by the issues wether they are related or not... my other card was a HD4870X2 which seemed to be stuck on 10.4's / 5's everything else was broke.

Oh well ... just never had any issues at all with nvidia from 5200 onwards.

Hope they get a fix soon before i crack the poo's and go back to green.

P.S. i did try alot of drivers ati and realtek drivers, re-installing steam bc2 etc etc... just seems i cant have any monitoring programs open and have deleted AB.

Official 11.4 drivers and punkbuster updates seemed to fix my lockups and stutter issues.

Bit of an update...

I dont crash if i close all monitoring programs cpu and gpu.

What a pain in the ass, i have run dual/multi monitors for 5+ yrs and this is the first time i cant use them properly... stupid punkbuster!

Tried 2.2 beta of afterburner didnt like that either.

My no go list includes

Afterburner
GPU-Z
Realtemp
Coretemp
CPU-ID

Running 11.4 drivers...

I think i will be getting my GTX460 back and take the fps hit ... at least i could run any program while gaming.

Anyone have any updates?

Thanks very much for this. Punkbuster was my problem and I have an on-board realtek audio device.

At what point do the authors of punkbuster and/or the game(s) accept responsibility for these issues and fix them!? I've never had any problems with any other game EXCEPT bfbc2 multiplayer. Single player works fine. This happens to be the first game I have ever played that uses punkbuster...and will be my last.

To the OP (and all contributors), however, a big thanks for your time & efforts. Serious kudos! I'm sure one of your solutions would work, but I can see clearly now that this is just a case of terrible/careless/obtrusive programming, and after having spent many, MANY hours, beating my head against the wall, trying to figure out either what I messed up, or what hardware in my computer was failing, I am not doing any of this. I shouldn't have to.

In short: my solution is to quit playing s***ty broken games that use punkbroken...er...buster....
