BFBC2 Freezing? Crashing? Guide and Solutions... - Page 6

Hi BigFrank, thanks for this helpful thread.

I too have been having problems with BC2 for some time now, mainly random CTD's

And then when the PB update came, the same lock-ups you have described.

After a week of pulling my hair out and trying every fix known to man , I submitted a support ticket to Even Balance, this is the reply..

Quote:
Note #4: Please start pbsvc.exe and run through the uninstall process. After that, run it again and run through the install process. Make sure it uninstalls/installs correctly. Reboot the computer and then try playing again. Vista (and above) users need to start it explicitly with admin rights.

Please make sure you allow the service files in security software like virus scanners and/or firewalls. You will need to allow/unblock the services PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe from your "C:\\Windows\\system32\\" folder (or "C:\\Windows\\SysWOW64\\" on 64bit systems). In case of doubt, manually add both to your firewall's allow list. After the installation process you will only find PnkBstrA, so just make sure this process file is not blocked. Then try playing on a PB enabled server, in case of a kick, check if PnkBstrB was created and unblock it too.
Since following the above, I did the entire process twice, I have not had any other lock-ups.

I use Precision and I have found I need to start it up , select fan speed then exit, then start BC2 , if I want to play without a CTD.

Do you guys get a BSOD when bfbc2 locks up? I sometimes do if i forget to close MSI AfterBurner before I launch the game. As long as i close AB the game run flawless.

MSI Afterburner has been found to be part of the issue. Punkbuster thinks that overclocking software running the backround is hacking software. Other overclocking software does not seem to cause any issues.
Everyone that I know of so far, myself included, hasn't been getting a BSOD. The whole computer locks up, and the screen(s) turn black, and it is impossible to crtl-alt-delete.
If you are getting a BSOD, the next time you do please get a picture or write down the error code so that maybe we can figure something out from that.

There is also another issue where the game will just crash to desktop without any warning at all.

My problem is fixed, I played bfbc2 for 4 hour straight with out single crash also overclocked my gpu by ccc no problem at all.

- MSI Afterburner
- Sapphire Trixx
- GPU-Z

This hasn't been confirmed by punkbuster or EA, but looking at the posts and issues myself I would say it's safe to see that punkbuster find processes running during game play ( overclocking software, GPU monitoring, etc ) and thinks they are hacking tools and then there is an issue.
@Kick go through the first post. I would uninstall punkbuster and shut down any programs running in the background during game play to start with. From there try things out from the list of fixes. Some fixes work, some don't. That is the whole problem with this issue it's not one specific thing. Punkbuster hasn't said anything on the matter, and EA has said it "could be" punkbuster issue. But they also have yet to released any official comment. What is known is the majority of these issues started on March 9th after the punkbuster update.

Exactly, and it seems to always happen about 15-20mins in, I'll time it next time. And for me the harsh tone lasts for a few seconds and then no sound, just a normal looking frozen screen shot. And it needs a reset.

Saturday and sunday I installed a bunch of games, altering some DX drivers, don't know if punkbuster was altered. I don't know if it crashed on sunday.

Then monday I installed a 6950, CCC 11.4, MSI-AB 2.1.0, Trixx 3.0.6, and I remember the problem first on monday.

I tried the punkbuster thing from the OP, that didn't work.

3 crashes in a row last nigh, I'M VERY ANGRY. THATS THE ONLY GOOD ONLINE GAME I OWN.............

If you close MSI Afterburner and Trixx and similar programs (GPU-z.. etc) you should not get any more freezes

I know, playing without MSI Afterburner sucks But we'll have to wait until Punkbuster fixes it.
