So it seems that latency matters more than memory speed.

I still need to play with vqpi and see if bclk vs mult makes a difference

Grandpa - thanks for all our help - interesting what you said about the P6T, I wonder if it just can't handle the extra power for the extra cores? I've definitely felt that the p6t is holding the chip back but I haven't been able to prove it.
strange... must be a 980x thing, cus with my 2600k, timings made no noticeable difference, however going from 1600mhz to 2133mhz gave me a 2-3k ppd boost

Do you mean 6.34 - I don't see 6.35 on the fah website? Is the cpu loaded or not? Does the OS become unresponsive? If the cpu is loaded and the OS is responsive how long do you give it before killing it?

Here's some things to try:

Reducing your overclock in case it's a stability issue
Delete your queue.dat and work dir and restart fah in case something got corrupted

What I was trying to say was that if you don't fold on your gpu, you should. Just add the correct smp flag and you're good to go. I'm seriously, gentlemen.

Btw stren that's some really nice research you've made, I appreciate it.

Good to see you got your frame times down. And you are correct about latency but memory speed also make quite a difference although not as much as latencies. Try bumping your QPI up a little and increasing your speeds if you can keep the heat under control. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks dude. Yeah I would fold the gpus too if I was folding on windows, the hit I get on linux with the wine overhead seems to make it prohibitive for me right now. Of course, maybe there's some tweaking to do on that too

In a few days I"ll report back with the results of

4.0GHz - 20x200 1600-9-9-9-27 1.375Vcore, 1.64VDram, 1.35VQPI
4.0GHz - 25x160 1600-9-9-9-27 1.375Vcore, 1.64VDram, 1.35VQPI
4.0GHz - 30x133 1600-9-9-9-27 1.375Vcore, 1.64VDram, 1.35VQPI

After that I'll sweep VQPI, and then I'll fine tune for my own setup. It takes a while as I'm trying to let each one run overnight without any other programs open to minimize the random effects that seem to cause some frametimes to be a few minutes longer than others.

BTW sorry for any threadjacking lol!

Yeah I'll give it a go, I'm not sure how far the memory will push as the 12 gig sticks are only rated for 1600-9-9-9-27

I would, but as I'm intending to swap the 250 and 275 over (275 goes WKS04 --> WKS02, 250 goes the other way) as WKS02 Folds on the GPU full time, WKS04 takes a hit on the CPU (SMP) client and swapping them over effectively means I'm getting around a 4k PPD boost..

I should also be getting a nice ~4k boost from the GT430 that I'll be adding into WORK_PC soon...which is in my drawer, just waiting for time to fit it...

On a 8 threaded machine it may be worth it but I doubt it when you figure the $ per Point on a 12 threaded machine it will cost you points. And there are several WU's that will not run -smp 11 so a person will have to run -smp 10.

When I tried using -smp11 I got "Mapping NT from 11 to 10", so I'm pretty sure you are losing 2 threads, at least in this case, to the GPUs. (Project: 6901 (Run 8, Clone 18, Gen 4)).
