How do I "properly" stress SB? - Page 2

Then clearly you weren't stress testing it properly then.

If my old system (Athlon II x4) could pass at least 24 hours of Prime95 blended, forcing at least 7GB of RAM usage (had 8GB total), then I would NEVER have a problem doing anything else. If it failed at all doing the stress testing, it would have random BSOD problems.

My machines usually stay on 24/7, and I usually try to keep them folding while they're on and not gaming. It is VERY important that I ensure stability before running folding clients, so I don't lose work units.

Stress testing is not a science. You turn it on. Set ibt to max or prime95 to a certain amount of ram and blend then start. Its simple.

Yeah, because Memtest is such a great stress test.

All it does is check for errors. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with actual stress on the RAM or the IMC.

Read my earlier post in the thread... That's what I use to stress test. Memtest is just for checking OC RAM settings prior to stress testing. I was just adding it because it is a useful tool for OC'ing memory.

Personally this sounds like an issue with the board's bios and how the turbo microcode or thermal microcode is functioning.

LinX does force higher TDP than Prime95, that is a fact... so it could be power, thermal or turbo related. It could also be with how the board's microcode interprets AVX as stated previously.

Try using the older LinPack libraries and see if it throttles or not.

in my testing:
  • Prime95 small fft 24H = pass
  • Prime95 large fft 24H = pass
  • IBT 24H = pass
  • Prime95 blend <1H = fail

If you can run Prime95 blend for 24H, I would say you're 99.9% stable. For 4.8GHz, I was able to do this at 1.344V. Currently testing 5GHz at 1.424V.

It does not throttle with older Linpacks (such as the one IBT downloaded with). And Prime95, actually forces HIGHER temperatures than IBT / LinX does for me. Even clocked to 4.5GHz (so it doesn't throttle). Prime is still hotter loading than a Linpack test.
