Open the case and take out the circular silver battery in the mobo, then replace it and boot.

NO! Never open your case with the psu on. It can be plugged in at the back but make sure it is off at the back. That way the case is earthed but not live! Touch the case to earth yourself before you touch any components inside, otherwise you could short something out.

I'm tired I'll do this tomorrow. BTW I fear resetting the CMOS won't fix the problem... because when I power up the PC, it abosultely does nothing... fans aren't spinning, no lights, just nothing.

ahh!

Take the power lead out. wait a minute or so (if your mobo has lights on it wait for them to go out) plug back in then fire up again.

no.... that didn't work. same problem. my mobo has a green led so that's the only light that's working. I unplugged the psu power cable, wait for the green light to disappear and then plug the power cable back in. tired to power on... nope, nothing
