Not to mention the advantages when it comes to VRM cooling. I'd imagine the GTX 590 will have the VRMs located near the center of the PCB, as the 6990 does.
The problem with a conventional blower, which the 5970 uses, is that the VRMs get a core's worth of heat as the air travels to the back of the case. This causes the VRMs to hit their thermal threshold prematurely and triggers throttling, as I've experienced myself with my 5970.
Anyone considering this card should be using a full tower, and the length of the card pretty much guarantees this will happen (unless you happen to be crazy like me
