well cant break the 4ghz thing even at 1.55v wich i felt was not right anyway. at 3.9ghz and 1.5v I had to up the voltage on dram to even get that no idea why. Im gonna go l see if i can find a ghow to guid for my motherboard and cpu combo. Might have a bad board dont knwo enuff yet

It is perfectly reasonable.

Keep in mind these chips become a bit unstable in OC when they rich above 56-58ºC.

And most have a wall of 4Ghz, so you should aim for 3.8Ghz-4Ghz, but I would not dream with 4.2Ghz at all, as you would need to be under water to achieve that.

What I would do is buy a pair of proper fans (Gentle Typhoon 1850rpm) and put them on a push/pull config to drop a couple degrees on your CPU.

Try to keep it below 58ºC (That's real temp, so about 46-48ºC in Core Temp) to get a stable OC.

I say 3.8Ghz-4Ghz is enough, I wouldn't go above 1.5v-1.52v on air.

I am on water though i have the corsair h50 water cooler. Im gonna google it some more tried to play bfbc2 with it at 3.8ghz and it crashed. This is getting ridiculus all i wanna do is play the damn game at maxed out settings with great fps. Starting to rethink amd for sure

You can't consider the Corsair H50 a water cooler, I would consider it a "decent" air cooler category

You may have a hard time getting 3.8Ghz-4Ghz.

But yeah, if you really want TOP performance and a 100% scale in your CF, you could always sell your AMD CPU/Mobo and move to an i5 2500k or an i7 2600k.

6AM, I'm off to sleep, will try to help you mo re once I wake up, good night.

Bad chips are out there but I think you need to read up a little bit more before dismissing AMD and your chip as a lemon.

3.8 shouldn't take 1.5v unless you're on an older board with less than an 8xx chipset, which you're not.

And while the H50 is a water-based cooler, it by no means performs incredibly with stock configuration. Adding fans for push/pull config, using the rad w/ fans as intake instead of exhaust, and other mods, will make it better. It's not entirely better than the top-end air coolers though. Remember that.

Well I reinstalled windows last night seeing as how I was able to hit almost 4ghz but still had negative scaling in bfbc2. After clean install tried it at regular stock 2.8 GHz speed and BAM no more negative scaling(clouds part and angels sing). I did not see any increase over a single one but at least now I know i will when I overclock. I think my on board driver for video was effing everything up so I left the on board chip without a driver. its one of those hybrid graphics boards so that is my suspicion.

Now back to the quest for 4ghz or at least a comfortable 3.8. I still cant believe I have to put it up to 1.5v just to hit 3.8 I was thinking of maybe disabeling 2 cores to make quad so I can hit above 4GHz would that work?

Bad Company 2 takes advantage of all 6 cores so you rather have 6 cores than 4

At 3.8Ghz it will be a nice OC, but I still think 1.5v is too high for 3.8Ghz.

Got it back up to 3.8GHz runs everything cool however I noticed some micro stuttering in bfbc2 and when running prime. CPU usage no longer bottlenecks at a 100% per core. Added another fan to the H50 for a push pull method. Bois wont let me set fan speeds manually so know of any good system/cpu fan control programs? Using afterburner for my GPU its great just need one for others.

Found a thread that lists 1055t overclocking profiles found 2 guys with the same cpu/mobo as me and im gonna try and copy their exact profile to reach 4GHz just want a good fan controler first. Definitly on my way. I also think the 6950 performance will increase with more driver releases.

I'm pretty sure BC2 is using up to four threads and Windows is just dispersing the load across all six cores (threads).

What voltage does it report in CPU-Z?

What are your LLC settings? (Load line calibration)

Might be able to drop that voltage a bit.

BTW mine is set to 1.425 CPU voltage in bios.
LLC pushes it up to 1.47 according to cpu-z under load at 3.8Ghz.
LLC can help to stable overclocks.
